The Lakes RV & Cabin Resort is pulling out all the stops this Independence Day weekend with a big celebration that’s sure to be the highlight of your summer getaway. On Saturday, July 5, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM, we’re serving up a FREE lakeside BBQ lunch for all overnight guests—and it’s not just any barbecue.
We’re thrilled to welcome Eddie Humphrey, a true Eastern North Carolina BBQ legend and master pitmaster, as our guest chef. Eddie’s not just preparing a meal—he’s creating a mouthwatering Southern feast filled with local pride, community flavor, and time-honored tradition.
Meet Eddie Humphrey: Eastern NC’s BBQ Soul
Born and raised on a farm in nearby Richlands, NC, Eddie Humphrey learned the art of whole-hog barbecue from his uncle, watching and learning from a young age how to prepare, cook, and carve a hog the Eastern Carolina way. At just 17, he cooked his first hog solo—and he hasn’t stopped since.
Eddie is more than a pitmaster—he’s a community hero. As a founding member of Jesus Culture Church in Richlands, he’s known for cooking and serving meals for those in need, always with a smile and his signature secret sauce (which he still won’t share—just know it’s vinegar-based and unforgettable!).
When Eddie’s at the smoker, you know you’re in for something special. For our July 5 celebration, he’ll be slow-smoking a whole hog, BBQ chicken, and serving up classic sides like his famous baked beans, creamy potato salad, and golden hush puppies. It’s the best of Eastern NC, made with love.
