The Lakes Uncle Sam — Labor Day weekend at The Lakes RV & Cabin Resort

Summer never really wants to end. And around The Lakes, it does not have to go quietly.

Labor Day Weekend Bash at The Lakes RV & Cabin Resort runs Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7, 2026 — four full days of pool time, live music, family games, tie-dye, a wagon and golf cart parade, and the kind of long-weekend lake life that makes you drive home already planning your next trip.

This is the send-off summer deserves. Not a “check the box” holiday. Not a rushed backyard cookout. A real long weekend, in a real destination, with real time for the family to be together — surrounded by the trails, the lakes, and the coastal Carolina air that make this corner of the state feel like a proper vacation.

Set in Maysville, North Carolina, The Lakes sits within an easy drive of Jacksonville, New Bern, Emerald Isle, and the Crystal Coast. Close enough to make the drive easy. Far enough to actually unplug. See the full events calendar — but here is what has us fired up about this year’s Labor Day Weekend Bash, day by day.

Friday Kicks Off With a Movie Under the Stars

The best Labor Day weekends start slow — and Friday at The Lakes is built exactly for that.

Roll in, set up the RV or unload into the cabin, take the kids to the pool for a first swim, and let the workday melt off. As evening settles in, we bring out the big screen for an outdoor movie under the stars. Grab a blanket, a bag of popcorn, and let the kids sprawl out with new friends they will remember all school year.

It is a low-key, welcoming way to open a big weekend. And by the time the credits roll, the whole family is already in vacation mode.

Saturday Turns Up: Whiskey Crossroads Live at The Lakes

Saturday is when the volume goes up. Live music comes to The Lakes with Whiskey Crossroads Acoustic Duo, playing a crowd-pleasing mix of country, southern rock, and pop that has kept dance floors full at parks and venues up and down the coast.

The setup is exactly what a lakeside show should be: open air, easy chairs, a Carolina evening breeze, and songs everyone in the family already knows the words to. Whether you want to actually dance, tap your foot from a camp chair, or hang out at the edge and catch up with neighbors — Saturday night hits different when there is a good band playing over the water.

Bring the whole crew. This is the kind of show that turns strangers into weekend friends.

Pool Volleyball, Games, and Kids Being Kids

All weekend long, the resort-style pool becomes command central for the under-12 crowd. We fire up pool volleyball for anyone brave enough to jump in — and it usually turns into one of those laugh-until-you-lose-track-of-time afternoons where the kids team up against the parents and, somehow, always win. Take a peek at everything else the resort has on tap.

Away from the water, classic outdoor games run throughout the weekend — the kind of easy, low-pressure fun that gets everybody playing together without a schedule or a screen. Cornhole, giant Jenga, ring toss, lawn games — whatever the day calls for. It is the exact opposite of a packed itinerary, and that is the point.

Tie-Dye: A Little Piece of Summer to Take Home

You know what makes a great souvenir? A tie-dye shirt the kids made themselves.

Our Labor Day tie-dye station is one of those activities everyone thinks is “just for the kids” until they roll up their sleeves and end up making one too. Pick your colors, twist your shirt, and walk away with a bright, wearable memory of your last summer weekend at the lake.

Kids will wear these to school for months. Parents will pull theirs out of the drawer every summer. And every time, they will remember exactly where they made it.

The Wagon and Golf Cart Parade

If you have not been to a wagon and golf cart parade at a family RV resort, prepare to have your Labor Day changed forever. This is one of the most beloved traditions at The Lakes, and it just keeps getting bigger.

Guests decorate their wagons, their golf carts, their bikes — anything on wheels — with streamers, flags, lights, and whatever creativity they can muster. Then we all roll through the resort together, cheering, waving, laughing, and taking pictures.

Prizes go to the most decked-out rigs. But the truth is, everybody who joins in wins. This is what community looks like when you actually take the time to stop and do something together.

Between the Big Moments: Lake Life at Its Best

The Lakes RV & Cabin Resort — camping resort in Maysville, NC

Labor Day at The Lakes is not just about the events on the schedule. It is about everything happening in between — and there is plenty.

Cast a line at the fishing lakes. Launch a boat from our private boat ramp. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and take the water into your own hands. Hike the trails around the property. Let the dogs run free at the fenced Bark & Run Park — one of the reasons families call us a favorite pet-friendly camping spot. Take a stroll to the sandy beach and just… breathe.

Come evening, everyone gathers around fire rings for s’mores, stories, and the sound of frogs starting up. This is the part of camping that never shows up in the brochure — but it is the reason people keep coming back.

Where to Stay: RV Sites, Cabins, Park Models, and More

Four days is a lot of weekend, and how you camp changes how you enjoy it. Fortunately, The Lakes has options for every kind of traveler.

RV Sites. Spacious, level, and set up with the hookups you need for a long weekend of comfort. Big rig friendly, with pull-through and back-in options.

Glamping Cabins. If you want to travel light — or just want everyone in a real bed with A/C and a full bathroom — our cabins are the way to go. Bring a bag, bring the family, and let the resort handle the rest.

Park Models. For groups who want more room to spread out, our park models offer that little bit of extra space that makes a four-day stay feel like a vacation home.

Tent Sites. Old school, in the best way. Simple, quiet, and priced for families who just want to be outside.

Extended Stays. Some folks come for Labor Day and stay through fall. If that sounds like your speed, extended stays are available — talk to the office when you book.

Maysville, NC — Coastal Carolina, Closer Than You Think

One of the best things about The Lakes is where we sit on the map. Maysville is a stone’s throw from Jacksonville, easy driving distance from New Bern, and a short trip to the Crystal Coast — meaning you can spend a morning on the water at the resort and an afternoon on the beach at Emerald Isle or Atlantic Beach if you want to make a day of it. See our full list of things to do near Maysville, NC.

You do not have to leave the property to have a great Labor Day. But the option is right there if you want it. That is Coastal Carolina living, and it is one of the reasons families make The Lakes their long-weekend go-to.

Bring the Family. Bring the Neighbors. Make It a Group Trip.

Some of the best Labor Day weekends here have been group trips — three or four families booked side by side, kids running between sites, parents relaxing under adjacent awnings, dogs making rounds. If you are traveling as a group, let us know when you book so we can help place your sites together.

There is something about a long weekend at a lake resort that turns friends into forever friends. Labor Day is the perfect excuse.

Give Summer the Send-Off It Deserves

Come Tuesday, the school year starts up. The routines come back. The summer light fades a little earlier every night. That is exactly why the last long weekend of summer matters more than any other.

Do not spend it in traffic. Do not spend it hosting a cookout you are too tired to enjoy. Spend it at the lake — with the people you love, in a place designed for the way you actually want to spend a weekend.

Whiskey Crossroads on Saturday night. Tie-dye at the picnic tables. Pool volleyball in the afternoon. A parade on Sunday. Fireflies over the water at dusk. Kids too tired to talk on the ride home.

That is a Labor Day weekend worth remembering.
